Malta has some wonderful architecture, it is in a unique position, between Africa and Europe, so it has influences from both in language, culture, food, and its buildings, it has Moorish palaces, as well as European influenced architecture, it has some of the most splendid churches in the world, and a trip round the harbour is a must, the fortifications are amazing.
A flight around the island must not be missed, an experience you will never forget, and a unique way to see the massive fortresses.
As a holiday destination, Malta excells, the weather is hot and sunny almost all year, we have been to Malta in all seasons, you dont get to use a jumper much ! in the winter, a breeze can cool things down a little, especially in the evening, but to people from northern Europe, Malta is very warm all year.
Malta does not have lots of big beaches, but the ones that Malta does have are brilliant, the sea is warm, and safe, most have the obligatory beach cafe, so food and drink close by, and not over-priced, there are a couple of large public beaches, and these are well used, but clean, and also some very secluded ones, all with nice sand, and child friendly. The Maltese love children, our daughter gets treated like royalty, every one loves her, and she revels in it, she is a very precocious 4 and a half year old !
Now food, the Maltese have a very varied menu, mostly influenced by Sicily and Italy, but with African and middle eastern influences too, this makes for a varied, and very interesting diet, and their salads are second to none, extremely fresh and tasty, all that sun again. fish features a lot in Maltese cooking too, the lampuki is a must do, its a seasonal fish and tasty, but try as much as you can, snapper, tuna, all fresh on the day, rabbit, chicken,beef and pork all feature too, as well as some excellent vegetarian meals, there is something for everyone.
